Welcome to the world of Tammy!
Back in the mid 1990s, Tammy collectors searching for information about their favorite doll on the
Internet often stumbled across the "Tammy Message Board". The site was hosted by Cindy Sabulis
who co-wrote “The Collector’s Guide to Tammy, the Ideal Teen”. The board was a gathering place for
Tammy collectors where they could Buy/Sell/Trade Tammy items, ask questions pertaining to Tammy,
and learn more about their favorite doll. The board led to many on-line friendships among Tammy
collectors. Over time, there were several discussions on the board about forming local Tammy clubs.
However, since it turned out most of the collectors were too far spaced around the country to
conveniently form local clubs, it was decided to hold a get together in a centrally located spot where
everyone could meet and "Talk Tammy ".
The first Tammy convention held in 2001 was attended by several Japanese Tammy collectors in
addition to many collectors from all over the US. What an exciting, informative and wonderful
experience all attendees had! After our first convention, it was our hope to make the convention a
yearly event. In subsequent years, we added some new seamstresses to the group to help put together
the convention outfits that were given away each year. New seamstresses included Arlene Norman
and Rebecca Wingler (designed and sewed 2nd - 5th year convention outfits), and Elizabeth Voice
(designed and sewed additional give-away outfits).
To date we have had five live Tammy conventions. At the end of each convention the attendees voted
to return to Chicago the following year. For 2006 & 2007, it was decided to host an on-line
convention so that those people around the world who couldn’t attend the Chicago convention could
participate in some of the Tammy fun.
Thank you for joining us in our 2007 cyber convention, and we hope you will join us for the next live
"TAMMY CONVENTION" in Orlando, FL in 2008. More information about the 2008 convention will
follow as details become available.
After a survey was taken, it was decided that Chicago, Illinois was
a central location for most people. Jan Montalbano offered to host
the convention since she lived near Chicago. A committee was then
formed to help plan the 1st Tammy Convention. Committee members
consisted of Sally Seikel, Rebecca Wingler, Cindy Sabulis, Laura
Mitchum (who designed and sewed the first convention outfit
give-away), and Dal Lowenbein (graphic artist who designed the
convention logo).
